HOW TO PLAN A ROUTE THAT FITS YOUR TRAILER

On properly equipped full-size SUVs, you can use the In-Vehicle Trailering System and Google Maps to plan a route to your destination that is drivable with your trailer. The system is designed to help you avoid bridges that are too short for your trailer and other potential hazards. You must enter your trailer’s dimensions into your trailer profile for this feature to work.

HOW TO USE TRAILER NAVIGATION

1. Make sure you have your trailer connected.

2. Check your trailer profile. Make sure you’ve put your trailer’s dimensions into the trailer profile so your In-Vehicle Trailering System knows how big it is.

3. Open Google Maps on your center display and enter your destination in the search bar.

4. Once you’ve entered a destination, Google Maps will show your available routes and mark them as “driveable with your trailer” or “not driveable with your trailer.”

a. If there are bridges along your route, Google will mark them with a green marker if your trailer is designed to fit under them.

b. If your trailer won’t fit under a bridge, it will label the bridge with a red marker.

c. Trailer Navigation will suggest an alternate route if your trailer is less than 13 feet, 6 inches tall.

d. IMPORTANT: If your trailer is taller than 13 feet, 6 inches, Google Maps will calculate a route, but will mark bridges that are too low in red in the route’s bridge list. You should check the route’s bridge list to look for bridges that are too short while you’re planning your route. The system can’t provide alternate routes for trailers above 13 feet, 6 inches in height.

5. You can view the route’s bridges in a list by selecting Route Details in the upper-left corner of Google Maps or by selecting the Trailer icon on the route arrival time card.

6. If you select a bridge from the list, it will provide a zoomed-in image of that map area.

7. Tap a gray/light blue route on the map to view an alternate route to your destination.

8. Tap Start to begin navigation along the suggested route to your destination.

9. Select Done in the upper-left corner of Google Maps once you have reached your destination.
