Difficulty Level: Novice  |  Time Required: 2 Minutes  |  Tools Required: None  |  Related Parts, Products, Services or Technology: Modular Sky Panels, Accessory GMC Hummer EV Sky Panel Storage Set for eTrunk

If equipped, the eTrunk™ is a lockable storage compartment under the hood that can hold groceries, gear and more. On some models, the eTrunk hood is fully powered, while other models have a hood designed to be opened/closed manually. In addition to providing storage, the eTrunk includes an auxiliary power outlet. (The type of outlet may vary depending on your vehicle).

ACCESSING ETRUNK™ WITH THE POWER HOOD (IF EQUIPPED)

First, be sure the path of the hood is clear of people, snow and other obstructions. To access the eTrunk™ with the Power Hood or manually, the vehicle must be in PARK. To use the Power Hood (if equipped), make sure it’s turned on in the center display. Go to: Vehicle Settings > Comfort and Convenience > Power Hood Opening > Select: Maximum or Custom.

Using your key fob:

1. To open, press the Hood Open button on the key fob twice.
2. To close, press the Hood Open button twice, holding it down the second time until the action is complete.

From inside the vehicle:

1. To open, press the button to the left of the steering wheel once.
2. To close, press and hold the button.

NOTE: Additional functions of Power Hood operation with the interior button and key fob vary by vehicle. See your Owner’s Manual for details.

From outside the vehicle:

If the vehicle is locked, the key fob must be within 1 m (3 ft) of the front of the vehicle to access the eTrunk™ with the Power Hood.

1. Locate the exterior button on the front fascia (if equipped).

  • The location on the fascia will vary by vehicle. Check your vehicle’s Owner’s Manual for details on the exact location.

2. To open, press the exterior button once.
3. To close, press the exterior button once.

NOTE: Not all vehicles with a Power Hood have a fascia-mounted button for Power Hood operation.

Pull to close (on select models):

  • Pull the hood down until a chime sounds, then let go.
  • The hood will continue to lower automatically until fully closed.

WARNING: You or others could be injured if caught in the path of the Power Hood. Always supervise the operation of the Power Hood until it is fully opened or closed and keep hands and other body parts away from the hood when in use.

HOOD OPEN ALERT

When the eTrunkTM is not latched, a message will display on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and the vehicle will not be able to shift out of PARK.

If emergency circumstances require you to move the vehicle, you can override this function. Press the brake pedal until the DIC displays the message “shifter unlock complete.” The vehicle speed will be limited to 26 mph when the eTrunkTM is not completely latched.

OPERATING THE HOOD WITHOUT ELECTRIC POWER

There is a manual release cable located on the lower-left side of the instrument panel for service and/or emergency use (loss of vehicle electric power).

To open the hood manually:

  • Firmly pull the hood release cable two times

To close:

  • Pull the hood down.

CUSTOMIZE POWER HOOD OPEN SETTINGS (IF EQUIPPED)

On some models, you can set the desired hood open angle from the following options:

  • MAXIMUM
    • Allows your hood to open fully.
    • Use caution in this mode to avoid hitting overhead obstructions.
  • CUSTOM
    • Lets you adjust the hood open angle.
    • To set: Move the hood to your desired position, then press and hold the exterior touchpad on the front fascia (if equipped) until the exterior lights flash and a chime sounds.

NOTE: The vehicle will be sent from the factory with a preset  “Custom” setting that  varies depending on your vehicle.  When adjusting the “Custom” setting, the hood cannot be set below a preset minimum. If no lights or sound occur, your height selection may be too low.

  • OFF/MANUAL OPERATION
    • Lets you physically lift the hood to your desired height.
    • To open, press and release the touchpad on the front fascia (if equipped), then lift the hood.
    • To close, pull the hood down until a chime sounds, then let go. The hood will continue to lower automatically until fully closed.

OPERATE THE EMERGENCY HOOD RELEASE BUTTON INSIDE ETRUNK

Inside your eTrunk is an emergency hood release button. The button will glow following exposure to light. If the vehicle is in motion when the button is pressed, the vehicle speed will be limited to 26 mph. Once the speed reaches 26 mph or lower, the power latch will release but the hood won’t open fully. If the vehicle is stopped or moving at less than 2 mph when the button is pressed a second time, the hood will fully release.

The emergency hood release button will not function when the battery is disconnected or depleted.

IMPORTANT: To avoid personal injury or death, always keep the hood fully closed and latched when storing the vehicle.  Do not leave the vehicle unattended when the hood is open. Never allow anyone, whether adults or children, to climb inside the eTrunk.™
