MINING FOR VICTORY
IN THE COPPER X PRIX
No. 99 GMC HUMMER EV.R Chip Ganassi Racing headed to Antofagasta, Chile, for the Extreme E Copper X Prix.
Drivers Sara Price and Kyle LeDuc pushed hard, giving it everything they had but didn’t advance past the second semifinal. However, as the official alternate, No. 99 was thrust into the final after a competitor couldn’t make it to the starting line.
The team had less than two minutes to make it to the track. Kyle was able to catch his breath and put the HUMMER EV.R in a prime position after piloting the first two laps. Sara jumped in for the final two laps and was the second driver across the finish line. Unfortunately, the team had to settle for fourth after missing a waypoint during the race.
Sara Price –
"I’ve never put on a suit that fast. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. We went from missing the Final, to the podium to fourth place. I couldn’t be prouder of our team because it’s just been a crazy day, to say the least. We took every chance we possibly could and with everything thrown at us, we just went for it. I’m super proud of the GMC HUMMER EV Chip Ganassi Racing team and everyone involved.”
Kyle LeDuc –
“The car and the team were ready to jump in and take advantage should someone not make it to the grid. Once we got the call, we jumped right into race mode. We just went for it. It was awesome racing and I hope you all enjoyed watching it. For the Chip Ganassi GMC HUMMER EV team, we pulled one out and gained more points than we had originally thought.”
After a roller coaster ride to the final, the team remains firmly in championship contention heading into November’s season finale in Uruguay.
