EFFICIENT, RESPONSIVE, POWERFUL:  DISCOVER GMC’S DURAMAX® DIESEL ENGINE CAPABILITIES

FOLLOW US

Diesel engines are known for their durability and power. When you’re talking about GMC’s pickup trucks and SUVs, durability and power are just the beginning. GMC’s Professional-Grade Duramax® Diesel engines offer capability without compromise.

Continue reading to learn more about the capabilities of the Duramax Diesel engines available on the 2023 Sierra Heavy Duty, 2023 Sierra 1500 and the 2023 Yukon.

6.6L DURAMAX TURBO-DIESEL V8

Over the years, the GMC Sierra Heavy Duty has built a reputation for incredible performance — especially when it comes to diesel trucks. The Sierra HD was engineered for towing. With GMC’s legendary available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine paired with the 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, the 2023 Sierra Heavy Duty delivers an impressive 445 hp and 910 lb.-ft of torque.

GMC’s professional-grade engineering went into making this already powerful engine perform more efficiently by optimizing the cooling capacity with a larger radiator and fan. The dual-path intake system draws dense, cool air through both the hood scoop and the larger grille to enhance its performance.

To help maintain optimal operating temperatures, Sierra Heavy Duty models equipped with the available Duramax Turbo-Diesel feature an integrated engine after-run cooling function, which can continue to idle the engine after extended and exhaustive periods of use, allowing for proper cool-down of vital underhood components.

3.0L DURAMAX TURBO-DIESEL

The 2023 Sierra 1500 now offers the second generation 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine (standard on AT4 and available on SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali and Denali Ultimate), and has been enhanced thanks to several key components and upgrades, including new steel pistons and a revised combustion bowl, returned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and improved temperature control.

The impressive power of the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine gives the Sierra 1500 class-leading capability, with available best-in-class* 305 diesel horsepower, best-in-class* available 495 lb.-ft of torque and a class-leading 4WD diesel towing capacity of up to 13,000 lbs.*

The 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine is also available on the 2023 Yukon SLE, SLT, Denali and Denali Ultimate, and offers 277 hp and 460 lb.-ft of torque. For long road trips, a Yukon XL equipped with the 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine also offers a maximum highway driving range of up to 756 miles* per tank on a full tank of gas.

The Yukon’s available 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine offers diesel capability without compromising the luxury and comfort you’d expect from a Yukon — featuring an inline 6-cylinder architecture that reduces noise giving you a smooth and quiet cabin experience. This engine configuration offers the ideal balance of primary and secondary forces so that only two camshafts and their associated valvetrain components operate at one time. This not only eliminates the need for using balancing shafts but minimizes friction.

CAPABILITY WITHOUT COMPROMISE

A Sierra Heavy Duty, Sierra 1500 or Yukon equipped with an available Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine under the hood offers the performance you want without sacrificing efficiency and comfort. To learn more about these vehicles, visit the Sierra Heavy Duty, Sierra 1500 and Yukon pages.
